We insist that our meat processor save the hides of the sheep for us. We remove the excess flesh and dry them under salt before sending them to Driftless Tannery in Argyle, Wisconsin. The tannery uses true bark tanning techniques (without heavy metals) to make the water-resistant sheepskin.

Our hides are an incredible sensory experience. The leather is supple and soft and the wool is deep, ranging in length from 5-10 inches and often features gradations of colors.

Most of our hides are from lambs ranging in age from 9-12 months and have never been shorn. You see how their coloring has changed as they have aged and enjoy the soft lamb’s wool.

Hides often measures roughly 36 inches long and roughly 26 inches wide.

Prices range from $285-$400 + tax and shipping costs based on the size, quality of the leather and length of the wool.
