Care Instructions for Rugs, Skins and Skulls

We strive to honor our animals by creating beautiful and useful products from parts that might otherwise go to waste. Here are some care instructions:

For Rugs: Lightly clean by shaking out debris or brushing in one direction. Brushing in one direction minimizes felting. Wash by hand in a large sink or bathtub with cold water and a gentle detergent specified for wool, like Woolite or Eucalan. Lay flat to dry away from heat and in a well ventilated space.

For Skins: Care: Lightly clean by shaking out debris or brushing in one direction. Brushing in one direction minimizes felting. Spot treat with a moist cloth or lightly spray with water, again wiping in one direction. For more thorough cleaning, wash on the gentle setting in the washing machine. Lay flat to dry away from heat, periodically flattening the edges of the skin. Keep ventilated while drying. (Note, machine washing may change the character of the sheepskin.)

For Skulls: Our taxidermist prepares the skulls to preserve the beauty of the horns. They should not require care other than a good dusting or vacuuming periodically. If any part comes loose, cyanoacrylate glue (e.g., Crazy Glue) or epoxy will reattach it.
